Andreas has accomplished major repairs on Scaldis in the years he has owned her. His hours and hours of work will make her last many more years to come. Ivor and I were so impressed with the work he did, and as you can see from these pictures this was not an easy task. I wish our father Cole could see the amazing work he has done. He also added a new prop and together with the endless hours of welding, Scaldis easily does 8 knots through the water. Not to say he did this all by himself, because he had his helpers Charlotte and Alice!
Here is a timeline of the haul outs and work Andreas did:
First haul out in Australia was in November 2007 at the domain slip in Hobart. Scaldis was sandblasted and got a new epoxy coating, plus another group of new patches where new holes were blown in the hull.
In December 2007 he did the cockpit repair.
In December 2009 another haul out where he started with the hull repair.
In 2011 he couldn't haul out. The domain slip had become very expensive, Kettering still had the old slipways. Scaldis was on the cradle, halfway out of the water and then their cable broke. Scaldis went back into the water a great hurry.
In February 2012 he did the forepeak repair plus new fit-out.
In October 2012 another haul out where he continued the hull repair. This was the first time he hauled out on the new travel lift in Kettering and he found out that Scaldis weighs just under 26 tonnes (with provisions and gear). Andreas also added a new feathering prop for Scaldis!
In January 2013 with the new prop and new hull work Scaldis was on steroids and ready to conquer the seas with greater speeds than ever before.
The scary part were the old fuel tanks...never a reliable engine when you needed it. They were replaced with new aluminium ones in February 2013.
December 2014 saw another haul out.
Scaldis hauled out in April 2017 and again in November 2019.
