Scaldis: Specs and a quick time line.
Scaldis is a De Vries Lentsch Ketch.
She is 50ft in length.
Her beam is 12.5ft
She weighs in at 26 tons.
Her Keel depth is 6.75ft
She was built in 1935 in Nieuwendam Netherlands.
She has a cold rolled riveted steel hull, with flush teak decks.
Cole Weston purchased Scaldis in and around 1969.
His plan was to take his children (Ivor, Kim, Rhys, Cara and Matthew) to see the world and to get his oldest sons out of the country so they would not be drafted into the Vietnam war (which he didn't believe in).
I don't know much about her owners before my father purchased her, but she was in San Diego at the time he bought her.
Our family sailed her to many locations around the world, which included Hawaii, Channel Islands, Mexico, Costa Rica, Tahiti, Galapagos, Panama Canal, Caribbean, Bermuda and many destinations in between.
Cara Weston owned Scaldis for 4 years and her family (Brian, Roslyn and Nikki) sailed her to the Channel Islands, Mexico and the Sea of Cortez. 1995-1998
Richard Reppy and his family (Marci and Lauren) purchased Scaldis and they sailed her to many locations around the world.
The Reppy family sold Scaldis to Andreas Ocken in 2004.
Andreas in 2005 sailed Scaldis along with his parents and first child Charlotte to Tasmania where Scaldis now finds her home.
Andreas arrived in Australia around the 4th of November 2005. He sailed from Monterey to Hilo, to Fanning Island, to the Tokelaus (Fakaofo)...where the local people were not happy to see them arrive. They only anchored for a few hours and proceeded to Wallis island where in complete contrast they couldn't care less whether they cleared in or not! Then onto Fiji (Levuka, then Suva), New Caledonia (Noumea), Lord Howe (easy clearance port into Australia), Eden (NSW), finally to Tasmania.
